Salter

Salter is an exploration of 20th century book jacket calligraphy by Lucas Sharp. The typeface is a loving homage to various designs attributed to Oscar Ogg and George Salter, two masters of this period, and strives to bring out their respective genius into a standalone typeface. While Salter roman draws its construction methodology from the work of Ogg, the lowercase italic construction is based on a piece of lettering penned by Salter in 1941. The contrast of blunt, chiseled edges and loose, inky terminals echo the dynamic moments in history that these two artists inhabited. The act of systematizing something as singular and improvisational as Oscar Ogg or George Salter’s calligraphy brings this typeface into a new state of being that is contradictory to its original nature yet captures the eccentric spirit of its two inspirations.

Vin jaune (French for “yellow wine”) is a special type of white wine matured in a barrel under a film of yeast, only made in the Jura region in eastern France. The Vinho Verde is light and fresh with a delightful hint of effervescence and a mouthwatering acidity that make it an easy sipper.

There are examples of red sparkling wines such as the Italian Brachetto, Bonarda and Lambrusco, and the Australian sparkling Shiraz. If the Portuguese name Vinho Verde means “green wine,” it should translate as “young wine,” with wine being released three to six months after the grapes are harvested.

Salter was developed based on book cover lettering by George Salter and Oscar Ogg.
